17 Book Harness Muslin
A brocade figured fabric of the Madras muslin character. The ground is plain weave and the figuring is produced from coarse weft in detached figures. The floating weft from figure to figure is cropped off. Qualities vary from 48 X 40 to 60 X 56 ground weave. The weft is two fine picks ground, two coarse picks figure. Warp from 50's to 60's. Cord checks are produced by using thick cords in warp as well as weft, and these cords are floated as required, and after weaving, the floats cropped off. The illustration is of a cloth which is rather expensive, owing to the large amount of weft that is wastedDictionary of the English textile terms > Book Harness Muslin

18 Casement Repp
A special heavy repp fabric also used for curtains, hangings, etc. Usually with three to four times more ends than picks, and both plain dyed, stripes and jacquard effects. Both sides of the cloth are alike. Two warps are used and a standard cloth is made 132 X 48, 2/60's and 2/20's warps, 16's or 2/40's weft. The 2/60's warp is mercerised yarn and denting is two ends 2/60's and one end 2/120's. The coarse warp is loosely weighted and the finer tightly weighted, the fabrics are rather expensive, but always hang well and wear well. -
19 Pique
Sometimes abbreviated to P.K. See full pique and half pique. A type of seaming for gloves. ———————— Dobby cloths composed of two warps and two wefts. The face warp is lightly weighted, and weaves plain with the face weft. The back warp is heavily weighted, and stitches through the plain face cloth, according to a prearranged design. At the stitching points the face cloth is pulled down, causing the face to form an embossed surface. The second weft is used as wadding to make the raised figuring more pronounced. The face warp and weft are usually finer than those used for stitching and wadding and in the proportion of 2: 1, such as 2 ends 32's face 1 end 24's back. A popular cloth is made 40-in., 40/45 yards, 100 face 32's super Egyptian, 50 back 2/60's super American, 120 face picks 42's super Egyptian, and 64 wadding picks 18's super American. The finer piques are rather expensive. -
